The spring break season is fast approaching and college students from around the country are heading straight to the beach. But if you don’t attend college and you want to avoid the spring break crowds in Cancun, then check out these off-the-beaten-path Best Beach Vacations suggestions that are great for the family.
St. Lucia, the Caribbean
St. Lucia has been a popular out-of-the-way Caribbean destination for a long time, known for its rugged interior outlined by empty beaches. Now, the island offers daily non-stop flights on Delta from Atlanta and American from Miami and is undergoing very active real-estate development.
The rustic southern half of the island has many fishing villages, waterfalls, and cottage-style plantation villas. The Coco Palm resort will set you back just $145 a night. The French Creole-inspired resort has wi-fi service, yoga cruises, and guides to lead you through the 19,000-acre rain forest.
Antiparos, Greece
This famous Greek island is known to play host to many celebrities like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and is a sure indication that the haven is becoming a favorite on the list of best beach vacations. It is part of the Cyclades, off the coast of Paros, Antiparos, which still does not have many big hotels.
The island is known to be slow paced and unpretentious. It surely represents all the parts of a Greek island cliché: whitewashed houses, a famous land cave, historic ruins, and even blue grottoes that, according to legend, have magical powers.
You will see miles of beaches — both big and little — and Oliaros Studios is a hip, budget inn overlooking the Aegean Sea that provides sea-kayaking tours of the area.
Great Oyster Bay, Tasmania
The east coast of Tasmania is a well-kept Aussie secret. Known for its sheltering hills and awesome offshore currents, it offers one of the country’s most attractive year-round climates.
Chic stylish hotels and houses are moving in all the time, including the Avalon Coastal Retreat, which is actually a house that will accommodate up to six guest.
Over on the bay, there’s the Freycinet Lodge, which has beautiful views overlooking the beaches and granite coastline of Great Oyster Bay. It is a breath taking retreat, especially considering the nice price of $148 a night and is sure to make our list on the best beach vacations.
