Finding dirt cheap airline tickets…

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Key to travel these days is savings. If you’re taking a flight, then it’s important to find an airfare that won’t exhaust the bulk of your budget. Indeed, doing one’s homework when it comes to air travel can help you save and get your trip off to a flying start. But where to begin?

Factors affecting a flight’s cost include the season, the price of fuel, ongoing “fare wars,” and in some cases, a surcharge. Fortunately, for travel within the United States, you won’t need to worry about a surcharge just yet. However, this is certainly something that can change in the future, as the rules to the airfare game are constantly evolving.

As competition for passengers increases, airlines and online agencies are all attempting to offer the most competitive (and thus, attractive) price. When doing your research, look at ongoing “wars,” which may include regional, mini, or system-wide offers. Nowadays, many of the smaller airline carriers are reserving their best prices for their own websites. For instance, jetBlue Airways and Alaska Airlines offer sales on a weekly basis.

I Am Looking for Discount Airline Tickets

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I am looking for discount airline tickets is a question I get asked a lot. I have used cheaptickets.com in the past. or any other similar source is a good place to look because they buy tickets in bulk for resale. When you buy tickets from a source like this, be aware of every little detail. For instance if you purposely bring only carry-on luggage, make sure that your discounted tickets have not landed you on a connecting commuter flight that defeats the purpose of a carry-on by requiring they go below deck (because of the small jet size).

Airline ticket prices fluctuate constantly based on supply and demand. You get the feeling it’s like the stock market. Buy far ahead of time and during periods when others are not likely to be competing for seats. Seats on a particular flight will drop in price due to poor sales, then quickly rise when the buying starts again. You’re particularly subject to these fluctuations when you buy direct from the airline.

Lowest airfare available

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

More travelers are forced to choose between a high priced airfare ticket and the lowest airfare available ticket, without fully knowing that there can a lot of times be as many as 30 more fare buckets available for the same flight.

At best, only the cheapest airfare in the available fare category will be offered to the passenger as options.

We all know that many business (and frequent) travelers are happy about doing their part by booking the lowest airfare available they can sometimes hurt themselves and their company.

To begin with, they can hurt themselves because the sometimes don’t offer the most elite qualifying points for their frequent flyer program.

All About Consolidator Fares

Monday, February 25th, 2008

If you plan your next trip or vacation ahead, you can find some of the best deals with consolidators or “bucket shops”.

Consolidator fares are simply traditional airline fares, purchased in bulk by consolidators around the world and resold at steep discounts.

Airlines who want to ensure that no seats go empty will sell excess inventory, at discounted cost, to a consolidator. The consolidator then passes along the savings to the individual traveler.

While consolidators mark-up the fares they receive from the airline, these mark-ups are marginal, and are still often way below cost the cost of purchasing a ticket directly from the airline.

Airline Price Mistakes: Turn Mistakes Into Cheap Airline Tickets

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

If you believe the airlines, the posting of airline tickets is an automated process and the airlines claim to have fixed most the bugs in their ordering system that caused them to lose money on occasion.

The price of airfares are known to change everyday, and one would think this volume would cause a lot of airline price mistakes like the $39 round-trip from Seattle to Lebanon, N.H.

A lot of times $0 airline tickets isn’t necessarily a price mistake — take Europe for example, because airlines like and EzJet occasionally announce a ridiculous numbers of “free” tickets, or in the U.S., where Skybus and every few months receive great press on their sub $10 airline ticket prices.

Low cost business airfare

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Low cost business airfare is the preferred way to travel for most business people. You can do much better than coach class airfare. You get more leg- room to stretch, quality service, better food, and drinks. For a long time, finding low cost business airfare was a difficult task.

If you are employed with a company that receives discounts from the major airlines, then you are already in a position to save money. Do your research with the major airlines’ sites first. The one thing to remember is that there is no one resource where all of the low prices are reserved. To find them, you’ve got to be a little creative.

Spirit $9 Club

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

spirit-airlines.jpgHave you heard about the Spirit Airline $9 Club? Just so you know the $9 airfares are very limited — and you still have to pay taxes and fees — but Spirit Airlines does offer the $9 club airfare on a selected number of flights, including travel to the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

What’s the motivation for Spirit Air to offer this Spirit $9 Club?

Airline president Ben Baldanza said that the $9 club airfares are designed to bring in more business for the airline’s growing routes to the Caribbean. Mainly to leisure hot spots, because many passengers purchase tickets on the airline’s first flights to their destinations.

But due to the fact that many of those customers normally stay for a number of days, that leaves many of Spirit’s returning flights “flying empty” as the carrier powers up its initial service to the new destinations.

You should know that the availability of the $9 fares can be mostly limited and have a number of restrictions.

Airline flight discount coupon mistakes to avoid

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Almost everyday I read about airline promotions that contain an airline flight discount coupon. Dispite that fact that many of these promotions might be legal, a lot of them contain a clause that makes them worth less than you would imagine.

First off. I’m not trying to make The Entertainment Book look bad. A lot of its discounts—especially at restaurants, hotels, theaters, and other visitor attractions—are real money savers. You can save money with the coupons instead of without them.

But you should be careful when it comes to any airline flight discount coupon. From my own experience, the issues I’ve gone through is common with all types of promotions.

All too often, “discount” deals are limited to base prices that are higher than the best prices widely available to ordinary consumers. Think about it, what good is a $50 discount on a $500 ticket when you can buy the identical flight, without the “discount” but in a different fare category, for $300?

Why should you buy a “free” companion airline ticket that is valid only with a $600 base fare, when you can purchase two round-trips for $250 each?

Best time to book airfare

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

So many travel experts have different opinions when it comes to best time to book airfare. The airlines may not admit it, but there is a best time to book airfare.

Complicated algorithms utilized by the airlines figure prices for airfares, these algorithms include many factors, including the destination history, available tickets, purchase patterns, and sometimes the weather.

The prices can go up and down at different times of the day, and it’s hard to know if and when prices will go down at any given hour.
