Taking a vacation is very exciting, and getting it at a great price is even better. There are many ways you can go about getting the vacation you want without paying a fortune for it. By traveling during the off season to common destinations you may be able to cut your cost from 30% to 70%. You can also travel during the week as prices are less than on the weekends.

Most travelers agree that getting a low price hotel close to where you will be visiting is a good plan. Since you will be spending very little time in it, why pay a fortune for it? However, when you travel in the off season you can take advantage of deep discounts. You can get suite for the price of a regular room. You may be able to upgrade from a three star hotel to a five star hotel for the same price.

When you travel during the off season you will find that there are fewer other people around as well. This can make your vacation more enjoyable as you can get tables at the best restaurants, see shows that may usually be booked up, and not have to wait in line for attractions. You will likely find further discounts on the things you wish to take part in as well.

When you decide to take part in off season travel though, you do want to make sure the main attractions you are interested in will still be available. Some of them close down for certain times of the year. Others have shorter operating hours so finding out before you book your vacation will save you from disappointment when you arrive. Calling the location or checking online will allow you to easily find out such information.

There are many benefits to off season travel including saving you money and fewer people. This is a great option if you have a particular vacation in mind. You don’t want to pay more for it than you have to. This option can also allow you to take part in a vacation that would otherwise be out of your budget to realistically afford.

When we plan a vacation we don’t think about anything coming up that stops us from going. Yet too many people discover that at the last minute they have to cancel. There can be all reasons for this including illness, a family emergency, work related issues, and more. The bottom line is that this is very disappointing when you can’t take the vacation you have been looking forward to especially if you were unable to get dirt cheap airline tickets. What can make it worse though is when you have lost all the money you paid for it and get nothing in return.

Many travelers wonder if they should purchase travel insurance. The goal is often to get the vacation at the lowest possible price. Therefore adding $25 or something close to that per passenger for insurance can really increase the amount that is paid. Should everything go off without a problem, you may feel you have just wasted that money. Others look at it as offering them peace of mind though when it comes to protecting the money they pay for a vacation.

Before you decide if you should purchase travel insurance there are a few things you should consider. Fist, find out what the policies are for the travel arrangements you have made. Many airlines and hotels require notification within a specific period of time. It can be 48 hours or more. With many emergencies though you may not know until you have less time than that remaining that you won’t be able to travel.

Find out if you will be able to offer medical documentation in order to get your money back. Most of the time any type of refund though will be in the form of a credit. This credit will be extended for a certain period of time such as six months or a year. Should the cost of the travel be more than before you will be required to pay the balance. If the cost is less then you will forfeit the remainder of your credit.

The decision to purchase travel insurance or not is a personal decision. You may think it is just an additional cost initially and not want to cover it. However, for anyone that has lost their money for a vacation due to circumstances beyond their control, they will tell you that the small fee is definitely worth the money you will be saving in the end.

Airplanes are a very common method of traveling due to how fast you can get from one location to the next. However, that often comes with a hefty price that not everyone can afford. The cost of driving may be more affordable but the time involved is more than you bargained for. Before you give up though you need to learn about ways you can save money on air fares.

Most people use their credit cards at least a couple of times each month. Find out if any of yours offer a rewards program that includes flight miles. This way for each dollar you spend you will get points towards flying. You can cash them in to get a free flight or at least a discounted price when you are ready to travel. The guidelines for this type of money savings on air fare vary by offer so make sure you check into the details.

Checking around online for special offers and web fares is a great way to save money as well. You can check with different airlines, online travel sites, and even your travel agent to compare prices. Traveling on Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to offer the lowest prices. You will also experience fewer people in the airports and fewer delays on those days of the week.

When you check online fares, click the box that allows you to check flexible dates. It may surprise you to learn that changing your travel plans by one day either direction may save you hundreds of dollars on the cost of the flight. If you come across great one way deals, you may find it is cheaper for you to book that way rather than a roundtrip ticket. You may need to use two different airlines in order to get the best prices this way.

The flexibility of your times can also save you money on air fares. If you are willing to travel early in the morning or late at night the cost can be 1/3 or ½ of what it would be for peak hours of travel. Since these airplanes often have fewer passengers you will also find more room to store your carry on items and to stretch out for the duration of your flight.

Although vacation travel is fun, it requires good planning. For people who travel on business, the trip may not be as fun but good planning is still important. In either case, you can make the process of booking your trip much easier by following a few guidelines. To help, we have provided you with helpful information to make your next trip planning more successful. Remember, good planning often saves money and hassle!

1.	Online Booking – Whenever possible, take advantage of online booking. Today, airlines and travel agencies have created websites that allow you to look at options and then book. In addition, most sites are easy to navigate. The benefit of booking trips online is that you can take the guesswork out of the equation. For instance, you will know exact travel dates, times, restrictions, accepted reward programs, discounts, and more. By booking your next trip online, you can make all the appropriate requests for air travel, car rental, and accommodations day or night, making this a highly convenient option.

2.	Use your Air Miles – If you do not belong to any of the major airline programs, you can sign up free. As you travel, you begin to accumulate miles, which over time, will be cashed in for free air travel. Keep in mind that some airlines now offer the option of using air miles when booking online but some still require a phone call. In either case, building up miles is a great way to enjoy free trips. Additionally, most programs will also provide discounts on air, as well as hotel accommodations and car rentals.

3.	Early Booking – Booking trips as early as possible is a great way to save money, while also ensuring you have a seat on the plane when you arrive at the airport. First, booking in advance can save you hundreds of dollars over waiting to book within the week before travel. Second, all airlines overbook flights, knowing that not everyone will show up. However, if people do show up and the flight is overbooked, someone is going to be bumped. To reduce the risk of this happening, book early. In most cases, airlines will allow you to book in advance by as much as 330 days.

4.	Follow Up – It would seem that once you book your trip, it is a done deal but in reality, you should always follow up before showing up at the airport. Booking trips is just one part of the process – follow-up is another, making sure that you have a confirmed seat and that the flight is still on schedule.

5.	Flexibility – Another great way to save money when booking trips is to be flexible. If you have a schedule that can bend, take advantage of early morning or late night flights. In return, you can save significant money over booking during the busiest hours. Additionally, choosing an off-peak flight will usually ensure that you are not bumped from an overbooked flight.

6.	Travel Agencies – If you plan booking trips through a travel agency, make sure you work with one that is qualified and reputable. You want an agency that has your best interest in mind, finding you the best bargains, and travel options.

When planning a trip, most people want the best way to find cheap flights and travel. Even for those not on a budget, paying less for the flight or other travel accommodations allows them to enjoy more activities at their final destination. However, for families, finding cheap flights and travel is essential. We have good news in that you can find great discounts, simply by knowing where to look.

•	Air Passes – Today, many airlines compete hard, all vying for the customer’s business. Because of this, you will find that some promote airfare at a reduced rate. Therefore, consider researching the major airlines and travel agencies to see if they have any type of air pass available. While these are relatively uncommon, they do exist.

•	Book Early – One of the best ways of getting cheap flights and travel accommodations is by booking early. You might not think that this makes much of a difference but in truth, you could easily save $300 to $400 on travel if you were to book 21 days out or more opposed to 7 to 14 days! The further out you can book the better airfare you will secure.

•	Last Minute Deals – If your time is flexible, consider taking advantage of last minute deals. Of all ways to get cheap flights and travel, this is one of the best. Although you would need to travel quickly and usually within a specific timeframe, you also save 50% or more. For instance, if you were interested in taking a three-day cruise in the United States, if the cruise liner is not full within days of sailing, they will offer people tremendous savings to get it booked.

•	Comparison-Shopping – To ensure you get the best and cheapest flight and travel accommodations, you will need to shop around to make some comparisons. For instance, if you prefer booking travel online, you will find significant differences in price between one website and another. Therefore, always take time to look at all options!

•	Best Time to Buy – For most people, knowing the best time to buy airline tickets or book other accommodations is a shot in the dark. However, a number of organizations have created a great service in which travel in North America can be predicted for over 75 cities. With this, you will have much better insight in whether an airline is going to reduce prices or not. This information allows you to take advantage of the predictions, choosing the best time to buy to get the lowest rates.

•	Flexibility – Being flexible is a huge benefit to finding cheap flights and travel accommodations. The majority of travelers are on very strict timelines, which means they book only when they can travel. On the other hand, if you are more flexible with your travel schedule, you will find some incredible deals. For instance, you may need to leave or return a day early or late, stay at a downtown hotel, or stop in one or more cities to reach your final destination.

•	Frequent Flyer Miles – Sign up for a frequent flyer mile program for airlines you fly most. As you travel, you begin to accumulate points, which are then traded in for free flights. Although it takes time to reach enough points to get the cheap flights and travel accommodations, they do build up.

Do you want to plan a family vacation but find the budget tight? If so, you are certainly not alone. We all know the economy is tough right now, making family vacations one of the things that goes first. However, spending quality time together as a family is important and, it does not have to cost much. In fact, as you will discover in this article, many inexpensive family vacation options are available.

•	US National Parks and Forests – With hundreds of incredible options, chances are a national park or forest is located within driving distance from where you life. For something adventurous, consider pitching a tent. While there, you could enjoy any number of inexpensive or free activities such as marked trails, boating, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, or simply sitting in front of a roaring fire at night, roasting marshmallows.

•	Amusement Parks – The country is loaded with amusement parks, both small and large. Again, many are located within your own state or within driving distance. If you go to another city, simply find a low or discounted hotel and treat the entire family to a day of rides, playing games, and enjoying all the park has to offer.

•	Museums – A great way to spend a family vacation is by teaching your children about history. By planning a trip that will incorporate a number of historical museums, you will accomplish this while having fun. Many historical museums feature interesting artifacts that kids love. Additionally, you could visit historical homes, allowing the family to walk through places where famous people actually lived.

•	Relatives – If you are close in heart to relatives, plan the family vacation around family time with relatives. For instance, taking the kids to visit the grandparents allows you some needed downtime while also giving them the opportunity to bond with extended family. You may even have other relatives that live close to one another, making your vacation the ideal time for a family reunion.

•	Ski Trip – Mountains that offer family vacations of skiing are also a great consideration. Even if no one in the family has ever skied before, you could all learn together. If you have children who have never skied, many ski resorts offer free or low priced lessons for kids. Today, ski resorts understand the importance of cost, which is why many are creating special packages specifically for families. This means you get the accommodations and time on the mountain for little money. Some of the best destinations are located in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains to include Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, and one of the best, Crested Butte, a location tucked away from the hustle and bustle of most ski resorts.

•	State Capital – If you have only a day or two for your family vacation, you can still make it fun and educational at the same time. For instance, take the family to the state capital. There, they can gain a better understanding of the government for your state. In fact, most state capitals offer free tours, which are great.

Unfortunately, family vacations are often too expensive but they do not have to be. With careful planning and keeping your options open, you can have a great time together without breaking the bank.

Is there any such thing as a perfect vacation? You bet there is but it requires good planning and organization. The vacations that prove to be disastrous, expensive, or simply not fun are those thrown together at the last minute. However, by spending a little bit of time, you can compare prices, check out many different destination options, and end up with a wonderful vacation that you will never forget. The following six tips are just a few that you could consider when planning the perfect vacation.

1.	Options – The first tip to planning the perfect vacation is to keep your options open. In other words, if you had your heart set on a trip to Hawaii, but you find it is outside of your budget, you can still choose a sunny destination with beaches for far less. Instead of zeroing in on a particular destination, think of the type of environment you are most interested in, as well as activities and culture.

2.	Finances – Be realistic about the amount of money you can afford for the perfect vacation. Unfortunately, many people will go on vacation knowing they are spending way over their means, only to return home and find themselves in a financial mess. Obviously, being faced with money troubles will only ruin any of the good memories of the vacation. Instead, determine exactly what you can afford to spend and then choose your destination, accommodations, and other expenses accordingly.

3.	Travel Agency – If you are unsure where to start in planning the perfect vacation, consider working with a reputable travel agency. With this, you can describe the type of vacation and amenities you want, allowing the agent to do the work for you. For individuals who are busy with work or family, using a travel agency helps save tremendous time and effort.

4.	Pet Care – Some people will kennel pets or have someone pet sit while on vacation but today, we see a growing number of individuals who want to include this important member of the family in the vacation. In addition, hotels are now more pet-friendly than ever before. If you want to travel with your pet, make sure the hotel you choose is one that will allow it. In addition, a fee is usually associated with pets in a hotel so always ask about price. Then, if you will be flying with your pet, contact the airlines to determine cost, size/type of the pet carrier needed, and any shots/certifications needed by the vet.

5.	Traveler’s Checks – Although you would likely carry some cash on your perfect vacation, we strongly recommend that you purchase American Express traveler’s checks, which are accepted just about anywhere. That way, if your purse, wallet, or luggage with the checks inside were stolen, you would be reimbursed immediately after contacting the American Express office so you are not left out in the cold.

6.	Travel Insurance – Typically, people traveling within the United States do not purchase travel insurance but you might consider it. This type of insurance is beneficial if you were injured while on vacation. With this, you would be covered for treatment at any hospital. Again, it is often not needed for US travel but it is worth investigating.

•	Hawaii – This number one honeymoon destination has long been a favorite. With a tropical climate, breathtaking topography and waterfalls, and beautiful customs, it is no wonder married couples love Hawaii. The downside to taking a honeymoon in Hawaii is cost, which is relatively expensive. However, with numerous sandy beaches, hidden caves, top quality hotels, incredible food, tons of water sports, and the natural beauty of multiple islands, it is an investment worth making.

•	New York – Niagara Falls in New York is also a great choice when it comes to honeymoon destinations. This part of the country is diverse and simply beautiful. Niagara Falls is extremely impressive, which also offers special boat tours, allowing people to get a closer look. In addition to the Falls, you could take time to visit a number of restaurants, theaters, museums, and shops.

•	Florida – Another part of the United States with a tropical climate and beautiful scenery is Florida. Regardless of which coast you head to, you will find Florida to be warm, sunny, and invigorating. When it comes to honeymoon destinations, many couples flock to Florida just to spend time at the beach. However, additional and popular attractions are also great to visit to include Epcot Center, Disney World, and the Everglades.

•	Nevada – Both Las Vegas and Reno are exceptional honeymoon destinations. In Las Vegas, couples usually spend a lot of time on the strip, going to shows, visiting various casinos, and just enjoying the lights and action of the city. Reno is also a beautiful destination with shows and gambling but a little more laid back. In either case, you would have an amazing adventure and romantic time!

•	California – Napa Valley is beautiful wine country located in California where you will find many wonderful accommodations. This environment is almost surreal, providing you and your new spouse an opportunity to unwind, take tours of wineries, and just relax. Making up Napa Valley are six quaint towns with charming restaurants and shops, as well as spas for some much-needed downtime.

•	New Jersey – A great option associated with honeymoon destinations is Atlantic City. With pristine beaches and a four-mile boardwalk, you can stroll along hand-in-hand in a romantic setting. Atlantic City also offers casinos but if you want to escape to a quieter venue, the area is dotted with small restaurants and adorable bed and breakfast inns.

•	Colorado – One of the premier honeymoon destinations for people that love the outdoors, and those who prefer more time of seclusion, consider Aspen. Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, you could travel to Aspen in the winter to enjoy incredible skiing or take your honeymoon any time of year to appreciate the magnificent natural beauty. While there, some of the favorite things to do include white water rafting, hot air balloon rides, horseback riding in the mountains, or simply retreating to your hotel for a couples massage.

Spending vacation time with family members is extremely important. In addition to creating bonding time, family vacations also provide experiences that will be treasured for life. Unfortunately, many families never take vacation due to financial limitations but as you will discover, affordable family vacations are possible. Over the years, we have seen a huge decline in the family structure, which is why getting away for some relaxation together is vital to overall well-being.

1.	Off Season – An excellent way to enjoy affordable family vacations is to go during off-season months. Typically, people travel during the spring and summertime when the weather is warm and children are out of school. However, by planning a family vacation during the fall or winter, you can easily save 30% to 50%! For instance, while the kids are out of school for break, a trip would be ideal. A great example would be heading to Branson, Missouri during the fall. At this time of year, the leaves on the trees change to red, yellow, and orange, which is simply gorgeous. In addition, the cost to rent a cabin is dramatically reduced, saving you money.

2.	Off the Beaten Path – Another way to enjoy affordable family vacations is by choosing destinations off the beaten path. The interesting fact is that savings could be as much as 70%. Within the United States are many interesting towns where you could explore and learn new cultures. For example, you might consider taking a vacation to an Amish community, finding affordable accommodations while having the chance to learn about the culture and find some incredible shops with homemade merchandise.

3.	Internet – You will also find all kinds of affordable family vacations by using the power of the internet. Often, the most challenging aspect of saving money is finding the best deals. With the internet, you have access to thousands and thousands of destinations where you can scour for the best bargain. This means you save on hotels, car rental, and even airline travel. Additionally, the internet is a great place to locate vacations created specifically for families.

4.	Flexibility – Often, the best deals for affordable family vacations comes from your flexibility. You will find that many online travel agencies have special deals on cruises, vacation packages, hotels, and so on, but require that you travel within a strict timeframe. As you can imagine, this type of savings opportunity would be perfect for families with smaller children not yet in school. A great example would be finding a hotel room for $75 a night where the normal price would be $200.

5.	Driving Destinations – For some reason, many people believe the best vacations are far from home. In truth, regardless of where you live, you can be sure there are multiple destinations within hour’s drive from where you live that would provide an excellent adventure for the entire family. Again, you can use the internet to research nearby destinations, choosing something that would be fun but also affordable.

6.	All-Inclusive – Another excellent option for affordable family vacations is to consider all-inclusive packages. By all-inclusive, this means the whole family would stay in a hotel or at a resort, which includes the sleeping accommodations, meals, beverages, and transportation. In fact, it is common to find all-inclusive vacation packages that also cover airfare. With this option, you and the family could travel to a number of exciting destinations while saving 30%, 40%, 50%, or more.

When traveling, there are a number of ways to save, which given the economic climate today, are more welcomed than ever. Here are a just a few that you might want to keep in mind when planning your next trip. From booking hotels and flights to getting around when you arrive, remember that research goes a long way to paying the right price(s)!

1. Low airfares: These days, comparing prices is a fun challenge for the traveler. In fact, it’s become somewhat chic to brag over what you paid for a particular flight or overall trip. Being able to stretch the dollar is a definite virtue. To start, your first thought is likely to visit popular booking sites, like Orbitz, Travelocity, and Expedia.

By comparing the rates of similar flights at each site (note: they’re not all the same), you’ll be on your way to familiarizing yourself as to what the general fare might be. Also, with the demand for affordable travel, it’s not surprising to find that there are actual search engines dedicated to price-comparison. Visit sites like Kayak, SideStep, or Farecast and make note of when the best deals are available. Being flexible as far as travel dates is also helpful.

2. Look into packages. As Travelocity and similar sites will explain, booking a package may very well save you a “good deal” in the end. Instead of booking a flight, hotel, or car rental separately, you could save hundreds by choosing a package that takes care of all three. While there will likely be some restrictions, such as time of arrival/departure, these are minor adjustments when the reward is extra spending money or simply, the ability to visit your destination of choice.

3. Attractions cards. These passes typically cover a number of the most popular attractions and/or venues for a particular city. For instance, you might look into investing in a CityPass or Go Card. Each of these offers discounts or free admission to certain attractions. What you’ll want to look closely at when making your choice is: 1) the length of your stay, 2) the attractions covered, and 3) the overall cost.

In most cases, you’ll find that the longer your stay, the better the value of a card. If you are only staying in town for a day, then an attractions pass might not be the best investment, as you’ll need to visit a number of places to justify the price. However, if you are staying in town for several days, a 3-day or 5-day pass will likely result in savings. It’s also a matter of convenience, as you’ll have the ability to change your itinerary at a moment’s notice (and not wait in line).

4. Public transportation. With gas prices reaching new highs, it’s definitely a wise choice to look into a city’s public-transportation system. Single- and multiple-day passes can be purchased that will enable you to ride a city’s rail, bus, or metro for free. This will help you avoid paying for parking, as well as wasting time looking for a space.

It’s true that in some cities, like Los Angeles, it’s not very easy to get around without a car. However, for many other cities, such as San Francisco and New York, public transportation is truly the best option. What’s more, you’ll be helping the environment by reducing emissions and your carbon footprint.

5. Sticking to a budget when dining out. While dining out is an essential part to a vacation, spending a bundle doesn’t have to be. Most cities have the hidden, value gem that the locals simply love. When you arrive in a new city, ask for the inside scoop. Also, do research ahead of time by visiting review sites, such as TripAdvisor, Yelp, or ChowHound. Search by price and rating and see which restaurants are getting a “thumbs up” for a consensus.

Once you start, you’ll find that budgeting will flow into everything related to your vacation. From your flight to your hotel to your restaurant of choice. It’ll become your goal to holiday without breaking the bank. And then, upon your return home, you’ll have a great story to share with friends, starting with how much you saved.
