How to Score a Free Hotel Room

When you book your next hotel stay, try your best to get a “comp”.

The “comp,” better known as a for one night, is a great hotel freebie. I think we can all agree that a free hotel room is a ton better than a cheap hotel room.

We all know that everyone reading this article won’t score a free room. If they did, the hotels wouldn’t make much money. Although, if the hotel plans to offer free room comps to anyway, it might as well be to you, right?

I thought you would agree. Don’t worry. The hotel chains won’t lose money by giving out free room comps. Now do exactly as I say and follow these quick tips to land your free hotel room.

Get on the floor. The more popular way to score a free hotel room comp is by booking a room on the gaming floor at a casino hotel. This is a technique used by Richard Herndon, who states he’s gotten over 35 free nights to date by joining “slot clubs”, primarily in Nevada.

Casinos are known to take care of their returning guests with big discounts on rooms, even when the hotel is booked solid over a weekend. You can easily save 40% off the published room rates.

Frequent guest stay free. There’s no question about it, being a frequent hotel guest is the best way to get rewarded with a free one-night stay.

Make a true complaint. We all know the old “squeaky-wheel-gets-the-grease” trick can work wonders. But the bottom line is this: It better be a real complaint.

The guy at the front desk has probably heard it all before and is immune to your whining. Can you fault him? The real reasons for asking for a freebie hotel room can include (but are not limited to) your room being burglarized, a reservation that isn’t honored because of overbooking or significant misstatements about a hotel’s amenities.

Don’t try to scam the hotel system, but work within the system to get your free hotel stay. In other words, use these strategies, but remain professional and don’t abuse them.
