Lowest airfare available

February 26, 2008 by warren707

More travelers are forced to choose between a high priced airfare ticket and the lowest airfare available ticket, without fully knowing that there can a lot of times be as many as 30 more fare buckets available for the same flight.

At best, only the cheapest airfare in the available fare category will be offered to the passenger as options.

We all know that many business (and frequent) travelers are happy about doing their part by booking the lowest airfare available they can sometimes hurt themselves and their company.

To begin with, they can hurt themselves because the sometimes don’t offer the most elite qualifying points for their frequent flyer program.

Also, some of the cheapest fares don’t qualify for frequent flyer miles, depending on the route the airline takes.

When you think of most companies, sales reps and executives travel the most. Often times a sales rep already knows the day they are leaving on a flight but are uncertain as to when they will actually return and will require an open-ended ticket.

This means the purchase of a full fare ticket or at the very least, changing an existing ticket with a penalty of $75 or more. Each fare bucket offered by an airline comes with its own set of restrictions and many times purchasing a ticket that is not the lowest airfare available (but not full fare), will allow flight changes without penalty and provide maximum frequent flyer points.

Most major airline websites will let customers buy one fare and “up fare” the purchase to a higher fare by the contacting the Web Services phone number for that airline.

This can help travelers avoid fees incurred by booking the fare through a reservation agent while also giving them credit for any “online booking mileage bonus points” the airline may provide passengers.

Basically, an informed customer has the purchase power. Knowing what is available to you is the best way key to save money associated with airline travel.
