We travelled to Tuscany off season during our honeymoon and did get a fantastic suite for the price of a room but there was little to do see and do outside of the hotel and very few other guests. Personally I like to travel on the cusp of the season - either just before or just after peak. Then you get the best of both worlds including slightly cheaper rates and less people but enough going on to keep busy. I recently got a great deal to Thailand, but decided not to go, when I found out that it would be monsoon season! I would have probably had to stay indoors most of the holiday!
